SM1-71 is a small molecule that is designed to inhibit the influenza virus by binding to an essential protein. SM1-71 inhibits the activity of c-Jun, which is a transcription factor that regulates the expression of genes involved in cell signaling pathways. The SM1-71 molecule has been shown to inhibit viral replication in cells and protect mice from experimental influenza infection. This drug also reduces body weight and allergic symptoms in mice. It has been shown to be effective against wild-type virus strains, but not against mutant viruses with decreased susceptibility to SM1-71.
