Product Information

Name:
2'-C-Methyluridine
Synonyms:
  • 2'-C-Methyl-D-uridine
Description:

2'-C-Methyluridine is an inorganic compound that can be used as a building block for nucleoside synthesis. It is a diastereomer of uridine and has been shown to have antiviral properties in transfection experiments. 2'-C-Methyluridine competitively inhibits the phosphorylation of uridine by viral enzymes, which prevents viral replication. This modification also inhibits viral protein synthesis. It is made synthetically from the reaction between an organic base and a hydroxyl group, with subsequent dephosphorylation. 2'-C-Methyluridine has been shown to inhibit the virus that causes rabies, herpes simplex virus type 1, and influenza A virus.
