Product Information
- 2-(Methylsulfonyl)pyrimidine
2-Methanesulfonyl-pyrimidine is a thiourea that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It can be prepared by reacting phosphorus oxychloride with malonate and hydrochloric acid at temperatures of about 0°C to 150°C. The chloride anion is replaced by the sulfonyl chloride, which has high affinity for the 2-position of thiourea. This reaction leads to an intermediate that can be hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid to produce 2-methanesulfonyl-pyrimidine. 2-Methanesulfonyl-pyrimidine is soluble in water and can be used as a catalyst in wastewater treatment processes, such as cyclic oxidation or oxychlorination reactions.
