PD 118057 is a drug that is used to treat congestive heart failure. It is an inhibitor of histone deacetylase (HDAC) and has been shown to be effective in experimental models of cardiac hypertrophy. The drug has been shown to have a depressant effect on the heart, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of potassium ion channels that are responsible for maintaining the resting membrane potential. PD 118057 has also been shown to decrease the number of damaged ventricular myocytes in animal models.
