8-Oxoguanosine is an oxidative DNA lesion that has been shown to be a potential biomarker for the detection of cancer cells. 8-Oxoguanosine is produced by a number of pharmacological agents and reactive oxygen species, such as hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide. It has been shown to bind to DNA duplexes, inhibiting their replication and repair, which may lead to cancer development. The electrochemical detector can detect 8-oxoguanosine at concentrations as low as 1 μM in biological samples.
