It is a potent inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) reverse transcriptase and has been shown to reduce the production of HIV in vitro. 2AFNPYPC is also active against hepatitis B virus (HBV). This drug binds to the active site of HIV reverse transcriptase and HBV polymerase, respectively. The binding affinity for these two enzymes is similar, suggesting that this drug may be effective against other viruses with a similar enzyme target.
