It has been shown to act as an agonist of the G protein-coupled receptor CXCR1 and as an inhibitor of the ion channels TRPC3 and TRPV4. Mogroside II-A binds to the extracellular domain of its receptor by forming hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl group on its side chain and the amino group on the receptor. This binding prevents activation of these ion channels and leads to reduced pain sensation in animal models.
