Pancreastatin binds to and blocks the opening of K+ channels, thereby inhibiting the propagation of action potentials. Pancreastatin is a potent inhibitor of voltage-gated K+ channels in pancreatic β-cells and inhibits insulin secretion. Pancreastatin has been shown to inhibit the activity of sodium channels in the central nervous system, which may have therapeutic benefits for patients with epilepsy or other seizure disorders.
