It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cellular targets, including monoclonal antibodies, growth factors, and transcription-polymerase chain reactions (PCR). 8-Thioguanosine binds to the antibody response by modulating the function of the B cells. This drug also has immunomodulatory effects that have been shown in animal models. 8-Thioguanosine is used as an immunosuppressant in patients undergoing bone marrow transplants and solid organ transplants.
