2',3',5'-Tri-O-acetyl-2-fluoroadenosine is an antiviral nucleoside with anticancer activity. It is synthesized from deoxyribonucleosides, ribonucleosides, or modified nucleosides and has been shown to be active against a number of viruses. This compound can be used as an activator for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the diagnosis of HIV. The antiviral properties of 2,3,5-tri-O-acetyl-2-fluoroadenosine are due to its ability to inhibit viral DNA synthesis by competing with natural substrates for incorporation into the growing DNA chain.
2',3',5'-Tri-O-acetyl-2-fluoroadenosine also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells and has been shown to be effective against cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.
