The cellular effects of 4'-thioadenosine can be seen in HL-60 human cells, and this drug has also shown promising results in animal models of kidney fibrosis and liver cirrhosis. 4'-Thioadenosine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
