Thymidine-a,a,a,6-D4 has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of viral DNA and to inhibit the incorporation of thymidine into newly synthesized DNA. Thymidine-a,a,a,6-D4 also inhibits telbivudine resistance mutations in vitro.
