AZP-531 is an analog of rapamycin, a macrolide antibiotic that was originally developed for cancer therapy but was found ineffective for this purpose. Rapamycin inhibits cell growth by binding to the immunophilin FKBP12, which prevents the mTOR kinase from associating with its substrate S6K1 and phosphorylating it. AZP-531 may have potential as an anti-cancer agent
