Description:

Vitexolide D is a natural product that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, with an inhibitory concentration (IC) value of 0.063-0.125 μg/mL. Vitexolide D is active against human cancer cells in vitro at IC values of 1-2 μg/mL and has minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) values of 0.5-1 μg/mL for Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. The leaves from this plant are used to make medicine for treating fever, pain, inflammation and other conditions in tropical countries. Vitexolide D is obtained from dichloromethane extract of the leaves by epimerization followed by purification.
