Description:Tizanidine is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that has been used to treat muscle spasms and pain. The 4-aminoantipyrine metabolite of tizanidine, which is formed by the demethylation of tizanidine, has been shown to have analgesic effects in humans. Tizanidine-d4 is a metabolite of tizanidine which has been found to be more stable than tizanidine and may be useful in the detection of human liver cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. Tizanidine-d4 is also a substrate for peroxidases, which can form hydrogen peroxide from this compound. This metabolite can be used as an indicator for the presence of peroxidases in human serum.
