Product Information

Name:
a-Chaconine
Synonyms:
  • (3b)-Solanid-5-en-3-yl O-6-deoxy-a-L-mannopyranosyl-(1-2)-O-(6-deoxy-a-L-mannopyranosyl-(1-4))-b-D-glucopyranoside
Description:

a-Chaconine is a genotoxic agent that inhibits the production of energy through mitochondrial electron transport and ATP synthesis. It binds to the matrix effect, which is a protective barrier against the passage of toxic substances from blood to other organs. This compound also has anti-inflammatory effects and is used in vitro assays for assessing the effects of chemical compounds on cell growth. a-Chaconine has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity in rats, leading to acute toxicities such as respiratory depression. This compound also causes DNA strand breaks in vitro, and can be detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis.
