(2-Carboxyethyl)-a-cyclodextrin is a drug that belongs to the class of organometallic compounds. It has been shown to have anti-tumor effects, including inhibiting the growth of colorectal carcinoma cells. The drug has been shown to inhibit the production of hydrogen peroxide in various human colon cancer cell lines and to induce apoptosis in tumor cells by binding to DNA and RNA. (2-Carboxyethyl)-a-cyclodextrin also inhibits the replication of human adenovirus vectors carrying tumor suppressor genes, thus inhibiting tumor growth.
