Product Information

Name:
Digalactosylceramide
Synonyms:
  • Galabiosylceramide1- O- (4- O- a- D- Galactopyranosyl-b- D- galactopyranosyl) -ceramide
Description:

Digalactosylceramide is a lipid that is found in the central nervous system and is important for the structure of nerve cells. It can be found in the cerebrospinal fluid and has been shown to bind to receptors on tubule cells. Digalactosylceramide has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of methyl glycosides, hydroxyl group, and basic proteins. The chemical structure of digalactosylceramide has been determined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). This lipid is also found in the ventricular myocardium of mammals, where it may serve as an important component of the membrane system.
