20(s)-Ginsenoside Rh2 is a ginseng saponin that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It inhibits the expression of bcl-2 and enhances the expression of p53, which leads to apoptosis. 20(s)-Ginsenoside Rh2 also inhibits the activation of NF-κB, which suppresses tumor growth by suppressing the production of inflammatory cytokines. 20(s)-Ginsenoside Rh2 binds to nitrate reductase and prevents its activity, leading to an increase in nitric oxide (NO) levels in cells. This inhibition leads to increased apoptosis and decreased proliferation rates in cancer cells, as well as decreased activity of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). The effects are more pronounced with higher concentrations of 20(s)-ginsenoside Rh2.
