Ginsenoside Rg5 is a natural compound that has been shown to have a hypoglycemic effect and neuroprotective effects. It has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-apoptotic proteins, such as Bax and caspase-3, in neuronal cells. Ginsenoside Rg5 also blocks the nuclear translocation of pro-inflammatory transcription factor NF-κB and activates signaling pathways, such as mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), which leads to increased intracellular Ca2+ levels. Ginsenoside Rg5 has been shown to be effective for treatment of coronary heart diseases, cancer tissues, and inflammation.
