Methoxyphenyl 3-O-(3-O-allyl-2,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-β-D-galactopyranosyl)-6-O-benzyl-2,-deoxy, 2N-(phthalamido)-bDglucopyranoside is a fluorinated monosaccharide that is synthesized from the corresponding benzaldehyde and propargylic alcohol. The glycosidic bond is formed by an O-(3'-O allyl) β - D - galactopyranosyl group. The methylene bridge in the molecule can be modified with a click chemistry reaction to react with a thiol group on a protein. This modification allows for the site specific incorporation of the sugar into proteins.
