Kanamycin A related Compound 1 is a bioactive molecule with antiviral activity. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of influenza virus neuraminidase, which is necessary for the release of virions from infected cells. The mechanism of action of Kanamycin A related Compound 1 has been elucidated by molecular simulations and mutant strain studies. Kanamycin A related Compound 1 inhibits an aspartate residue in the active site of influenza virus neuraminidase, leading to decreased virion production and increased viral aggregation at the cell surface. This compound also has antibacterial properties against soil bacteria and can be used as an analytical reagent for determining amino acid residues that are important for enzyme activity in other enzymes.
