Lacto-N-fucopentaose III-APD-HSA has been shown to have antitumor activity. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. This compound binds to two sites on the 16S ribosomal RNA of bacteria and can inhibit protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting production of proteins vital for cell division.
