Lewis X-PAA-biotin is a pentasaccharide that has been modified with biotin. It is used to probe the cell membrane of spleen cells and helminth in order to determine their binding sites. The Lewis X-PAA-biotin binds to streptavidin, which can be immobilized on a surface for further analysis. The unmodified Lewis X-PAA-biotin has been shown to be an excellent ligand for glycan and mesenchymal stem cells. The residue left by the removal of the biotin from Lewis X-PAA-biotin can be used as a phenotype marker for exudates.
