Memantine lactose adduct is a small molecule that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial DNA. It has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial peptide against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus dracunculifolia, and Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Memantine lactose adduct binds to the dna binding site of the target protein, thereby blocking its ability to bind to dna. Memantine lactose adduct also binds with high affinity and specificity to model proteins (e.g., human il-2 receptor) in vitro. This compound has been shown to have synergistic effects when used with colony-stimulating factor (CSF) and IL-2 receptor agonists, which are effector proteins that stimulate the immune system.
