Product Information

Name:
Monoacetyl-b-cyclodextrin
Synonyms:
  • AcBCDAcetyl-b-cyclodextrin
Description:

Acute ischemia is a sudden decrease in the blood supply to an organ or tissue. Monoacetyl-b-cyclodextrin (MBCD) can be used as a therapeutic agent for acute ischemia by attacking the blood cells, which would lead to symptoms of acute ischemia. MBCD has been shown to shorten the duration of clinical symptoms and improve recovery from cerebral infarction. It also reduces cerebral edema, thereby improving the patient's prognosis and reducing the risk of cerebral hemorrhage. Laboratory studies have demonstrated that MBCD prevents dysplasia through an anti-inflammatory mechanism that decreases leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells and nitric oxide production.
MBCD functions by inhibiting platelet aggregation, which leads to decreased platelet degranulation and reduced platelet release of serotonin, leading to improved microcirculation in the brain.
