Neohesperidose is a fructan that is found in the fruit of the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis). It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity as well as potent anticancer effects. Neohesperidose is also used in diabetic medicine as a substitute for insulin, and it may also be used to treat disorders of sugar metabolism. This disaccharide has many biological properties, including receptor binding and stability. The chemical structure of neohesperidose includes a hydroxyl group and glycosidic bond that makes this molecule stable. It also has a glycan with two monosaccharides, which provides the compound with its high potency against cancer cells.
