Product Information

Name:
GT1a-Oligosaccharide
Synonyms:
  • Neu5Aca2-8Neu5Aca2-3Galb1-3GalNAcb1-4 (Neu5Aca2-3)Galb1-4Glc
Description:

GT1a oligosaccharide has a core tetrasaccharide structure (Galβ1,3GalNAcβ1,4Galβ1,4Glc) with sialic acid (NeuAc) linked α2,3 to the inner galactose residue and two sialic acids (NeuAc) linked α2,3/α2,8 to the terminal galactose residue (Ledeen 2009). Guillain‐Barré syndromes, a major cause of acute autoimmune neuromuscular paralysis, is linked to C. jejuni and several gangliosides. Anti-ganglioside antibodies are associated with specific clinical subtypes of Guillain‐Barré syndromes, including: anti-GD1a antibodies with AMAN56 and anti-GQ1b; and anti-GT1a antibodies with acute oropharyngeal palsy (Goodfellow, 2016).
