Plantamajoside is a plant-derived compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic properties. It has been found to suppress the proliferation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, which are cells that produce fat. Plantamajoside also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as PDGF-BB, from lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated macrophages. In addition, it inhibits the activity of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which is an important receptor for LPS. Plantamajoside also binds to the response element in the promoter region of genes encoding for proinflammatory cytokines and reduces their transcriptional activities. This plant extract has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and enzyme activities in mitochondria by decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential.
