Bromopentacarbonylrhenium(I) is a molecule that has been shown to activate latent transcription factors and induce the production of growth factors. The compound is also able to reduce the effects of autoimmune disease in humans, as it has been shown to inhibit human liver cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in vitro. Bromopentacarbonylrhenium(I) is an excellent candidate for anticancer therapy due to its ability to bind epidermal growth factor (EGF). This binding causes a conformational change in the EGF, which activates downstream signaling pathways that are responsible for cancer cell growth and survival. Bromopentacarbonylrhenium(I) also has chelate-type ligands that can bind heavy metals such as copper or zinc, making it useful for treating infectious diseases caused by bacteria or fungi.
