Product Information
- 7H-Furo[3,2-g][1]benzopyran-7-one,4,9-bis[(3-methyl-2-butenyl)oxy]- (8CI,9CI)
Cnidicin is a natural product that was isolated from the marine sponge Cnidoscolus aconitifolius. It is a secondary metabolite of this organism, with cnidilactones as its primary metabolites. Cnidilactones are cytotoxic, and are also present in other organisms such as the fungus Aspergillus niger. The structures of cnidilactones have been elucidated by HPLC standards and by reference materials. The chemical name for cnidilactones is 2-oxo-3-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-one and the molecular weight is 186.2 g/mol. This compound has been shown to have antibacterial properties against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. It has also been shown to be cytotoxic against cancer cells.
