Product Information
- (4-Chlorophenoxy) Acetic Acid Ethyl Ester
- Ethyl(4-Chlorophenoxy)Acetate
- 4-Chloro Ethylphenoxyacetate
Ethyl (4-chlorophenoxy)acetate is an antibacterial agent that binds to the bacterial enzyme carbon disulfide reductase and inhibits its activity. The cytotoxic compounds in ethyl (4-chlorophenoxy)acetate inhibit cell division, leading to cell death. The compound has been shown to be effective against strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Ethyl (4-chlorophenoxy)acetate is synthesized from ethyl phenol and 4-chlorophenol. This synthesis yields 1 mole of ethyl (4-chlorophenoxy)acetate for every 2 moles of raw material used.
