Coproporphyrin III-15N4 Sodium Bisulfate Salt is a porphyrin that is used in the diagnosis of hereditary coproporphyria, an inherited disorder of the heme metabolic pathway. Coproporphyrin III-15N4 Sodium Bisulfate Salt is a diagnostic agent for this disease because it can be detected by synchronous fluorescence and fluorescence spectrometry. It also has been shown to induce photodynamic effects on tumor cells, which may lead to its use as a cancer therapeutic agent. The mechanism of this drug's anti-cancer effect is not well understood, but it is thought that it may work by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production and reducing angiogenesis.
