Product Information
Methyl 7α-hydroxy-3-ketocholanoate is a synthetic, unambiguous chemoattractant. It is produced by the sea squirt, Ascidian. Methyl 7α-hydroxy-3-ketocholanoate is an endogenous compound that has been shown to be a chemoattractant for intestinalis, which may play a role in the regulation of water and electrolyte balance in the intestine. The production of this compound can be induced by chenodeoxycholic acid or chenodeoxycholic. Chenodeoxycholic acid is synthesized from cholesterol and 7α-hydroxylated at C7β position with the enzyme CYP7A1. Chenodeoxycholic acid is then converted to methyl 7α-hydroxy-3-ketocholanoate by methylation with S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and conversion of the hydroxyl group at C7
