Product Information

Name:
2-Ethylanisole
Synonyms:
  • O-Ethylanisole
  • 1-Ethyl-2-Methoxybenzene
  • 2-Ethylmethoxybenzene
  • 2-Ethylanisole 99%
Description:

2-Ethylanisole is a benzofuran that has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity and to be an efficient treatment for chronic bronchitis. It has been shown to inhibit the production of noradrenaline, which leads to bronchodilation and increased mucus secretion from the airways. 2-Ethylanisole also inhibits inflammatory cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, which lead to decreased inflammation in the airways. This compound was shown to be more potent than its structural analogue phenylethanol in inhibiting inflammation, although it was less potent in inhibiting the production of acetylcholine. 2-Ethylanisole can be used as a marker for detecting benzofurans in environmental samples and can be used for identifying chemical treatments for asthma. The molecular modelling of this compound shows that it is similar in structure to styrene, which may explain its antiinflammatory properties.
