H-Ser-Leu-Ile-Gly-Arg-Leu-NH2 is a cyclase inhibitor that binds to the neurokinin 1 receptor, leading to an inhibition of the release of inflammatory substances in the bowel. HSLIGRL can also inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF), which suppresses inflammation and cell proliferation. HSLIGRL also inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by decreasing the production of prostaglandins, which are chemical messengers involved in pain and inflammation. HSLIGRL has been shown to be effective against low potency benzalkonium chloride, which is often used as a preservative in pharmaceuticals. This compound has been shown to reduce inflammation by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL1β.
