N,N-Diethyl-2-hydroxyacetamide also has antibiotic properties due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, or Escherichia coli. This compound is an impurity in the HIV drug indinavir sulfate and may have contributed to its failure in clinical trials for HIV therapy.
