Cyphenothrin is a chemical compound that has been used as an insecticide. It is usually applied to the skin or sprayed on surfaces to control infestations of insects such as cockroaches, fleas, and mosquitoes. Cyphenothrin has been shown to have genotoxic effects in vitro and in vivo, but the mechanism for these effects is not well understood. The resistance of this compound has also been observed in a variety of insect species due to its high toxicity. The analytical method for detecting cyphenothrin involves using dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSE) on metal hydroxides and fatty acid matrices. This is followed by chemical analysis using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Cyphenothrin can be detected by fluorescence probe with a Camptotheca acuminata extract.
