Epitulipinolide diepoxide (ETD) is a sesquiterpene lactone that is found in the leaves of Costunolide. ETD has been shown to have antioxidative activity and can be used as a pharmaceutical preparation. This compound has also been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human melanoma cells, which may be due to its photosensitized effect. The cytotoxic effect of ETD on melanoma cells was found to be mediated by germacranolides, which are molecules with a porphycene core structure and an epoxide group at C-10. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of human melanoma cells in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and protein.
