6-Gingerol, also known as 5-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)decan-3-one, is the major metabolite of 6-gingerol. It binds to bcl2 protein and dextran sulfate and has been shown to be an active inhibitor of 10-gingerol. 6-Gingerol has been shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation in a rat urine model. In addition, this molecule inhibits the nuclear dna binding activity, chromatographic analysis, and apoptosis pathway. This molecule also induces reactive oxygen species production in cells and has shown effectiveness against oral pathogens.
