29-Hydroxyfriedelan-3-one is a chemical compound that belongs to the β-amyrin class. It is an oxygenated exudate that has potent inhibitory activity against tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, which is an enzyme that breaks down the bile salt in the intestine. 29-Hydroxyfriedelan-3-one has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for the treatment of osteoclast formation and bone loss. The biosynthesis of this compound may be due to the action of a tripterygium, such as Maytenus, on a hydroxy group.
