Periplocoside N is a natural product from the Apocynaceae family that has been shown to have biological activity. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic agent for more than 2000 years. Periplocoside N has also been found to be a potent inhibitor of cardiac enzyme DPP4 and has been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and COX-2. This compound has also been shown to have anticancer activity. In addition, periplocoside N inhibits the proliferation of B cells in mice with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
