The bacterial strain has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by reducing mitochondrial membrane potential and inducing apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. BKT140 also inhibits microenvironment-induced inflammation in bowel disease and autoimmune diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and multiple sclerosis.
