Echinoynethiophene A is an antibacterial compound that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bromodomain of transiliensis. It has been shown to inhibit mosquito larvae development in ethanol extract and inhibit the growth of bacteria in a laboratory setting. This compound has shown antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. Echinoynethiophene A also shows anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis. The natural compound has been identified in Chinese medicinal herbs from the genus Saussurea L.
