Product Information
- Urs-12-En-28-Oic Acid, 3,19,24-Trihydroxy-, (3Alpha)-
Barbinervic acid is a pomolic acid derivative that has been shown to have antitumour activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumours in rats by induction of apoptosis and inhibition of angiogenesis. It activates AMPK, an enzyme that plays a key role in cellular energy metabolism. Barbinervic acid also inhibits the synthesis of damaged proteins and promotes DNA repair, which may account for its anticancer properties. This compound binds to the amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and increases its activity, leading to decreased levels of reactive oxygen species and increased cell survival. The chemical composition of barbinervic acid includes two benzene rings, one pyridine ring, one cyclohexane ring, one nitro group, and two carboxyl groups. Barbinervic acid was patented in China in 2003 for use in cancer treatment.
