Quinoline N-oxide hydrate is a hydroxyquinoline derivative that inhibits the reaction rate of catalysed reactions. It is synthesized from picolinic acid, which is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of lysine and tryptophan. Quinoline N-oxide hydrate has been shown to inhibit the growth of toxoplasma in vitro, as well as enhancing the activity of other drugs against this parasite. This compound has also been used to reposition drugs with new indications, such as quinolizines.
