Product Information
Spiro[2.5]octane-7-carboxylic acid is an industrial chemical that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals, such as pharmaceuticals and dyes. It can also be used for the production of solvents, such as ethanol and methanol. The compound is synthesized from a reaction between p-toluenesulfonic acid and magnesium chloride to produce magnesium sulfate, which reacts with ethyl bromide to form spiro[2.5]octane-7-carboxylic acid. Spiro[2.5]octane-7-carboxylic acid can also be synthesized by reacting potassium tert butoxide with isobutyryl chloride in ether at room temperature. This reaction produces a Grignard reagent that reacts with p-toluenesulfonic acid in ether to form spiro[2.5]octane-7-carboxylic acid.
