Methyl Piperidine-3-carboxylate Hydrochloride is a nucleophilic compound that can be synthesized by condensation of benzylamine and methyl piperidin-3-carboxylate. This reaction takes place in the presence of strong acid, such as sulfuric acid, or in the presence of an organic base, such as potassium hydroxide. The intramolecular condensation reaction proceeds through a six-membered ring intermediate. The final product is formed by dehydration and thiohydantoin formation. Methyl Piperidine-3-carboxylate Hydrochloride has been shown to have antihypertensive effects in rats. It also has anticonvulsant properties and can be used to treat epilepsy in humans.
