N-(4-(Trifluoromethyl)oxazol-2-yl)-9H-xanthene-9-carboxamide is a novel, low expression, partial agonist for the α receptor. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on glutamate release and has been successfully used to reverse drug induced excitotoxicity in mice. N-(4-(Trifluoromethyl)oxazol-2-yl)-9H-xanthene-9-carboxamide also enhances allosteric modulation at the α receptor with a high affinity for this site. This compound has also been shown to have a pharmacological effect on brain cells and may be useful as a treatment for neurodegenerative disorders.
