Product Information
- H-Gly-Ser-Ser(n-Octanoyl)-Phe-Leu-NH2
Amino acids 1-5 of the peptide hormone Ghrelin which exerts its various effects through associating with the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R) through its unique N-octanoyl group which is linked to its serine 3 residue covalently. Ghrelin is found in the stomach, brain and other tissues and is involved in stimulating appetite, nutrient sensing and meal initiation. It has also been found to regulate insulin resistance, diabetes and obesity and its key role in glucose homeostasis, energy homeostasis, cardio-protective effects, bone metabolism and its potential to be a target for cancer means that it can be used to develop therapies for a whole spectrum of diseases. This molecule is used as a research tool for studying cell biology and pharmacology.
